Listening to music is the weirdest thing to me. It activates memories, reminds me of smells and atmosphere’s in locations. It’s synesthetic. I feel the ground beneath my feet, like what the carpet in my dorm felt like, how it felt with the blinds parted slightly and the light shimmering in. Reminds me of people, specifica days, emotions, classes I was taking, projects I worked on, what I ate. Full on memory zap. It boggles. Just boggles.
It’s like time traveling to me, I can remember anything, it’s embedded into the nature of the song. Every song, I can recall something or slip into a daydream and just fit back into the mold left in that memory. Just fit back into place and re-experience it. I think that’s why most bad memories I can’t remember hearing ambient noise or music. And when I work I can’t listen to music that has that ingrained code, it has to be something mindless that I still enjoy. No meanings or sensations attached. Those are saved for the right songs and the reflective memories.
